Stage Description
This stage continues along the Vega Baja of the Segura. The profile is flat and the landscape remains dominated by the orchard. The destination is the monumental city of Orihuela, cradle of the poet Miguel Hernández. Its old town, declared Historic-Artistic Ensemble, is a treasure trove of Gothic and Baroque churches, palaces and convents. It is one of the most important and beautiful stops on the Southeast Route.
This stage enters the Gascony region, a land of hills and cultivated fields. The route is demanding, with an undulating profile and continuous ascents and descents. Arrival in Auch, capital of Gascony, with its imposing Cathedral of Saint Mary and Monumental Staircase, is a culturally rich endpoint. It's a stage that requires good physical preparation but rewards with spectacular landscapes.
