Stage Description
This stage links Brañosera (Palencia), considered by many to be the oldest municipality in Spain (charter of the year 824), with Cervera de Pisuerga, capital of the Montaña Palentina. The 22 km cross the Montes Palentinos through valleys and forests of beech and oak, overlooking the peaks of Peña Labra. Cervera is the entry point to the Natural Park of Fuentes Carrionas and Fuente Cobre, habitat of the Cantabrian brown bear.
The journey between San Martín de Valdeiglesias and Cebreros is a medium mountain stage that takes the pilgrim of the Community of Madrid to the province of Ávila. The profile is a continuous "breakneck" climb, with several ups and downs. The landscape is of great beauty, with extensive pine forests and vineyards from the D.O. Cebreros, famous for its Garnacha wines. Arrival in Cebreros marks the end of the stage. This village is known for being the birthplace of Adolfo Suárez, a key figure in Spanish Transition. The Adolfo Suárez Museum and the Transition can be visited. Additionally, Cebreros has an interesting church and a very authentic mountain town atmosphere. It is a must-see stop for fans of contemporary history and good wine.
