Stage Description
This is a short and flat stage that approaches the valley of the River Alagón. The landscape is a mix of dehesas and cultivated fields. The main attraction of the journey is the arrival at the walled village of Galisteo. Its impressive stone wall, of Moorish origin, surrounds the entire old town. Walking through its streets and admiring its church and medieval bridge is a journey in time. It's a monumental stop in a rural setting.
The stage between Canaveral and Galisteo is a short but very favorable profile, ideal for a relaxed walk. The route runs over flat terrain, through a landscape of meadows and cultivated land. The arrival in Galisteo is the big prize of the day. This village, declared Historic-Artistic Ensemble, is one of the great jewels of the Via de la Plata. Its main characteristic is its spectacular stone wall, of Almohad origin, which is almost intact. Walking along its ramparts is a unique experience. The old town of Galisteo houses the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, with its Mudéjar apse, and the Picota, symbol of the village's jurisdiction. It's a monumental final stage that surprises and charms the pilgrim.
