Stage Description
This stage of the Lebaniego Way is a mountain day that ventures into the Hermida Gorge, one of the longest ravines in the Peninsula. The route is spectacular, with sections that run along suspended paths over the Deva River and breathtaking views. It's an demanding stage, with significant inclines. The route traverses a beautiful landscape, with oak forests and holm oaks. The end of the stage is in the small and isolated village of Cabañes, a haven of peace at the heart of the mountain, ideal for rest.
The journey between Cades and Cabañes is one of the most spectacular and demanding sections of the Lebaniego Way. The pilgrim faces a mountain terrain with breathtaking rewards. The first part of the stage takes the walker into the impressive Hermida Gorge. The route follows the course of the Deva River, enclosed between vertical limestone cliffs. You pass through the spa town of La Hermida and enjoy an unique geological environment. The second part of the journey involves a strong ascent. The path leaves the gorge to climb towards the mountains, in an demanding ascent that takes the pilgrim through forests and high meadows. The views from the highest points are magnificent. The end of the stage is in the small and isolated village of Cabañes, in the Cillorigo Valley. It's a place of serene beauty, surrounded by mountains and with well-preserved traditional architecture. Cabañes offers the tranquility and authenticity of deep rural Cantabria, a perfect place to recover from the effort and enjoy the silence of the mountain.
