Stage Description
High mountain stage between the Montaña Palentina and the Montaña Leonesa. The 18 km cross the Pando pass with spectacular views of the Picos de Europa. The landscape is of high meadows, beech forests and transhumant grazing areas. Prioro is a small Leonese village with traditional architecture of stone and wood, typical of the central mountain.
The stage that connects Ávila to Arévalo is a transition journey that takes the mountain pilgrim to the plain. The profile is very favorable, with a gentle descent. The landscape changes radically, and the foothills of the sierra give way to the La Moraña region, an extensive cereal plain. The path runs on dirt tracks in an environment of great solitude and open horizons. Arrival at Arévalo is the grand prize of the day. This village is the capital of Mudéjar art in Castile and León. Its castle, where part of her childhood passed Queen Isabella, and its numerous brick churches, such as those of San Martín, Santa María la Mayor or San Miguel, are of exceptional beauty. Walking through its old town is to discover an outdoor museum of this architectural style. Arévalo is also famous for its cuisine, especially for roasted suckling pig. It's a monumental and gastronomic stop of the first order.
