Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
This stage ventures into the heart of the Sierra Norte Natural Park of Seville. It is an demanding day, with a "strenuous" profile, that runs through solitary and beautiful terrain. The path advances along dirt tracks between oak groves, beechwoods and hedgerows, crossing several streams. The lack of intermediate services forces the pilgrim to be self-sufficient. Arrival at Almadén de la Plata, a small mining town nestled in the mountains, is a well-deserved rest after an immersion into authentic Andalusian nature.
The stage between Castilblanco de los Arroyos and Almadén de la Plata is one of the most beautiful and wild sections of the Via de la Plata in its Andalusian stretch. The pilgrim immerses themselves completely in the Sierra Norte Natural Park of Seville, a space of heathlands and Mediterranean mountains of immense ecological value. The profile of the day is a continuous rise and fall with no major ports, accumulating considerable unevenness, making it an demanding stage.
The path runs almost entirely on forest trails and paths, far from asphalt and noise. Solitude is one of the dominant notes, so it's an ideal day for introspection and enjoying the landscape. It's common to observe local fauna such as deer or wild boar, and large birds of prey. One key point is crossing the Arroyo de las Víboras. It's essential to note that there is no point of refueling along the entire route, so it's obligatory to leave Castilblanco with enough water and food for the whole day.
The arrival at Almadén de la Plata, a village of white houses that seems frozen in time, is relief and reward. Its mining past, which gives it its name, and its location in the heart of the mountain give it a special character. Its services, although basic, are enough for the pilgrim to replenish their strength and enjoy the hospitality of the mountains.
