Stage Description

A stage that ends in Poitiers, historic capital of the old Poitou and a university city since 1431. Some 21 km leave Châtellerault and head into the Poitevin plateau. Poitiers is home to one of the most important Romanesque ensembles in France: the church of Notre-Dame-la-Grande with its famous sculpted façade, the baptistery of Saint-Jean (4th century, one of the oldest Christian buildings in Europe) and the cathedral of Saint-Pierre.
The stage from Châtellerault to Poitiers crosses the countryside of Poitou. The way sets out from Châtellerault and follows an undulating profile, with a gentle climb towards Poitiers. The route crosses a landscape of great beauty, with cultivated fields and woods. It is a walk that rewards you with the beauty of its surroundings and the monumentality of its destination. Arriving in Poitiers, the "City of a Hundred Bell Towers", is a moment of great emotion. The city, with its impressive Romanesque heritage, is an architectural jewel. Its heritage and its lively atmosphere make it one of the most important stops on the route. It is a stage that is rewarded with a monumental finish.
