Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
The Via Lemovicensis begins on the Eternal Hill of Vézelay, with its impressive basilica, a World Heritage Site. This first stage is an enjoyable walk that descends into the valley, entering Borgonia's countryside. It is a transition day, allowing the pilgrim to bid farewell to Vézelay's grandeur and acclimate to the path's rhythm. Arrival at La Maison-Dieu, a small village with an ancient Templar commandery, marks the end of this stage with a touch of mystery.
The inaugural stage of the Via Lemovicensis is a short and symbolic 10.5 km journey that starts from the hill of Vézelay (300 m), one of the most important starting points of the Way of St James in France. The path descends from the majestic Basilica of Saint Mary Magdalene, World Heritage Site, and enters the Borgogne countryside.
