Stage Description
This stage begins with the crossing of the Tajo River, although not through the famous Roman bridge of Alcántara, but rather by the modern dam of the reservoir. After crossing the river, the path once again enters the extremeña heathland, in a terrain of continuous undulations. It is a day of great beauty that passes through cattle farms and a landscape of great solitude. The final route ends in the small village of Grimaldo, a haven of peace that offers an authentic and rural rest for the pilgrim. It's a stage to enjoy nature and the tranquility of deepest Extremadura.
The stage that starts from the Alcántara Dam is a continuation of immersion in Extremaduran heathland. The journey begins by crossing the dam's reservoir, an impressive feat of engineering. Once on the other side, the path ventures into a territory of ranches, where it's customary to see cows and sheep grazing. The profile is a continuous rise and fall over a gentle terrain of rolling hills, in a beautiful and solitary environment. The route runs along dirt tracks and rural roads, far from asphalt. It's an stage for enjoying silence and direct contact with nature. The end of the day arrives at the small village of Grimaldo. This nucleus, belonging to Cañaveral municipality, is an example of traditional architecture in the area. It offers basic services and a hostel, providing a peaceful and welcoming final stage, ideal for recovering from effort and enjoying Extremaduran hospitality.
