Stage Description

This is the last stage of the Ruta Vadiniense, a transition day that leads the pilgrim back to the Way of France. The route is mainly flat, following the Esla River valley. It's an enjoyable stroll along the riverbank, through a landscape of chopperas and fields of cultivation. The route passes by small Leonesan villages before arriving at Mansilla de las Mulas.
The last stage of the Ruta Vadiniense is a pleasant conclusion that connects the tranquility of Leónese mountains with the vitality of the Camino Francés. The stage is predominantly flat, as it follows the fertile valley of the Esla River.

The path starts in Gradefes, with its Cistercian monastery, and advances on dirt tracks and local roads with little traffic. The landscape is dominated by the riverbank willows and irrigated fields, a contrast to the mountains of previous days.

It's an easy stage for walking, enjoying the soft terrain and reflecting on the adventure experienced in the Picos de Europa and Riaño Mountains. Several small towns are passed through, such as Villafale and Villamoros de Mansilla.

The arrival at Mansilla de las Mulas marks the end of the Ruta Vadiniense and its union with the Camino Francés. The pilgrim will immediately notice the change in atmosphere, with a greater number of walkers and more developed infrastructure. Mansilla de las Mulas, with its medieval walls and bridge over the Esla, is a perfect place to celebrate the end of a route and the start of a new section on the journey to Santiago.
