Stage Description
This stage of the Camino de Castellón, a Jacobean route that climbs from the coast to the interior of the Maestrazgo. The 20 km leave behind La Pobla Tornesa and go into the region of Plana Alta, with a landscape of orange groves, garrigues and bare mountains of the Serra d'en Galceran. Sierra Engarcerán is a small village in the interior of Castellón with a traditional Valencian countryside.
The journey between the small village of Bendollo and the town of Quiroga is a short and very favorable stage, ideal for a relaxed walk. The path descends gently into the fertile valley of Quiroga, in a landscape that surprises with its Mediterranean microclimate in full Galicia. The pilgrim will walk among vineyards, olive groves and cherry trees, a beautiful setting. Arrival in Quiroga, capital of the concello, is the end of the stage. This town is known for its olive oil, one of the few produced in Galicia, and honey. Additionally, it is the entrance to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Montañas do Courel Geopark, a territory of great geological and natural value. It's an ideal place to rest, enjoy local cuisine and prepare for the mountain stages that are ahead. The pilgrim will find all necessary services in Quiroga, as well as a welcoming atmosphere that will allow them to recover strength and get to know the culture of this unique Galician comarca.
