Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

This long stage connects the provinces of Albacete and Cuenca, deepening into the heart of La Mancha. The route is flat and monotonous, a challenge for the pilgrim's mind as they walk through endless trails between fields of cultivation. The route passes through the local town of Minaya. Arrival in San Clemente is a monumental reward. This village, declared a Historic-Artistic Ensemble, surprises with its impressive Renaissance Plaza Mayor and a rich heritage of churches and noble houses. It is a day of great physical effort with a cultural reward of first order.
The stage connecting La Roda to San Clemente is a 34.5km long journey that immerses the pilgrim in the deepest essence of La Mancha. The route is characterized by almost completely flat profile and a landscape of vast expanses of vineyards and fields of grain, with long straight roads that test mental endurance. The path starts at La Roda (710m), famous for its "miguelitos", and heads north, crossing the provincial border to enter Cuenca. The route passes through the local town of Minaya, which offers an intermediate rest stop. The lack of shade is a constant feature, making it a stage that requires good planning, especially during the hottest months. Despite the monotony of the landscape, the sense of vastness and solitude can be a very introspective experience. The arrival at San Clemente (735m) is a monumental reward for the day's effort. This village, declared a Historic-Artistic Ensemble, has one of La Mancha's most beautiful main squares, in Renaissance style, and an impressive collection of historic buildings, such as the Town Hall and the Santiago Apóstol church. It is a final stage that contrasts the austerity of the road with the richness of its heritage.
