Stage Description

After the hardness of the previous day's journey, this 32.7 km stage, although long, offers a smoother profile. The main difficulty is concentrated in the first part, with the climb to Tamicelas Hill. Once overcome, the rest of the route is an enjoyable descent and a wavy terrain through the Ourense valleys.
The 32.7 km stage connecting Laza to Xunqueira de Ambía is a long but gentle stretch compared to the previous one. The main challenge lies at the beginning, with the climb up Tamicelas Hill, an ascent of around 400 meters that the pilgrim faces with fresh legs.

Beyond this hill, the rest of the route is much more favorable. A long descent leads through a wooded and rural landscape, passing by small villages scattered along the slopes. The feeling of tranquility and immersion in nature is total. Pilgrims pass through Vilar de Barrio and Alberguería, important service centers in the area.

The landscape is dominated by "soutos" (chestnut forests) and "carballeiras" (roasted woods), creating a shaded and pleasant environment for walking. It's an ideal stage to enjoy Galicia's interior in its purest form.

Arrival at Xunqueira de Ambía marks the crowning glory. This small town houses a monumental treasure: the Colegiata of Santa María la Real, founded in the 12th century. Its Romanesque church, Gothic cloister, and Baroque organ make it one of Galicia's most important monastic complexes. A visit to the colegiata is indispensable and offers a cultural counterpoint to the nature-filled journey.
