Stage Description
At this stage, the path begins to gently descend from the high plateau towards the historic region of Velay. The landscape remains mountainous but smoother. The route introduces the pilgrim to the characteristic architecture and landscape of this region, cradle of the Via Podiensis. Arrival in Montfaucon-en-Velay, a town with an interesting monumental ensemble, is a culturally rich endpoint. It's a transition day that prepares for arrival at Le Puy.
The Les Sétoux to Montfaucon-en-Velay stage is a 16.8km journey that gently descends from the high plateau into the Velay region. The route starts at Les Sétoux (1100 m) and follows a predominantly descending profile, with some undulations, until reaching the town of Montfaucon-en-Velay (950 m). The route passes through a beautiful landscape, with alpine meadows and forests. It is a peaceful and easy walk that allows you to enjoy the scenery and arrive in time to explore the destination town.
