Stage Description

During this 28-kilometer stage, the pilgrim says goodbye to Navarre and enters La Rioja, famous land of wine. The route is demanding due to its length but quite comfortable in terms of profile, with gentle undulations and long flat stretches. The path traverses a vineyard landscape and fields of cereal, passing through small towns like Sansol and Torres del Río, the latter featuring an enigmatic Romanesque church of the Holy Sepulchre with an octagonal plan. The most notable landmark before Logroño is the city of Viana, Navarre's last town on the Camino, boasting an impressive historic quarter. Arrival in Logroño, capital of La Rioja, crossing the Puente de Piedra over the Ebro, is an exciting moment and the entrance to one of Spain's best gastronomies.
The stage that connects Los Arcos to Logroño is a long journey that involves changing communities, saying goodbye to Navarre and welcoming La Rioja. The terrain, along its 28.1 km, is a continuous patch of soft hills, without great mountainous difficulties, allowing for a good walking pace.

The landscape is dominated by extensive fields of grain and vineyards announcing the arrival in wine country. The first town on the route is Sansol, perched on a small hill, from which you can see directly across to the Torres del Río. This small locality deserves a stop to visit its most precious jewel: the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, an octagonal Romanesque temple attributed to the Order of the Temple, recalling that of Eunate.

The path continues until Viana, the last Navarran town on the route. Viana is a monumental village with an imposing historic quarter, walls and the majestic church of Santa María. It's a perfect place for a long stop and to recharge before the final stretch. Outside Viana, you'll find the hermitage of the Virgin of Cuevas. The last stage takes place in Riojan lands, with a gentle descent into the Ebro valley. Arrival in Logroño is highly anticipated. You enter the city by crossing the historic Puente de Piedra, welcoming the Riojan capital, a vibrant and lively city famous for its gastronomy, especially that of the Calle Laurel, a paradise of tapas and wines.
