Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
One of the longest and most demanding stages of the Camino Sanabrés, which enters the Sierra de la Culebra. It is a day of solitude and pure nature, with a rugged profile through oak forests and heathland landscapes. The route does not pass through large settlements, requiring self-sufficiency. The destination, near Puebla de Sanabria, marks the arrival at one of the most beautiful comarcas in Zamora. It is an stage for experienced walkers seeking the wild essence of pilgrimage.
The stage that starts at Mombuey and heads towards the heart of Sanabria is one of the most challenging on this route. It's a long journey that immerses the pilgrim in the Sierra de la Culebra, a vast natural space known for its beauty and for hosting an important population of Iberian wolves. The profile is a constant up and down, with demanding ascents that run along forest paths and trails. The sense of isolation is total, as one crosses through a very sparsely populated territory. It's essential to plan the day well and bring water and food, since services are almost non-existent throughout the route. The landscape, dominated by oak forests, pine woods, and heathlands, is austere and awe-inspiring. The stage culminates near Puebla de Sanabria, one of Spain's most beautiful villages, although the exact end point of this long journey may vary, situated in small villages like "Camzobre" or Rionegrito before arriving at the capital Sanabresa. It's a day to deeply connect with nature and oneself.
