Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
This is one of the longest and most solitary stages of the Way to Finisterre, covering 33 kilometers that traverse an interior Galicia, a deserted and beautiful region. The route is demanding, with a broken profile and long climbs, such as the Alto do Mar de Ovellas. The landscape is dominated by mountains, forests, and small villages scattered about. The feeling of isolation and walking on ancestral land is very profound. It's a day that requires good preparation and bringing provisions, since services are scarce. The destination is the small village of Olveiroa, a traditional stone-built nucleus that has risen thanks to the Way, offering genuine hospitality and restorative relaxation.
The stage between Negreira and Olveiroa is a deep immersion into rural and unknown Galicia. With 33 km, it's a long and demanding journey that will test the pilgrim's endurance. The profile is a continuous up and down, with long and drawn-out ascents like the one leading to Mount Aro.
The trail runs through a territory of great beauty but very sparsely populated. It passes through extensive forests of pines and eucalyptus, and it goes through small villages that seem frozen in time. The feeling of loneliness is constant, so this stage is ideal for introspection. It's crucial to plan the journey well, as there are few places to restock between Negreira and the end of the stage.
As the day progresses, the pilgrim ascends towards the plateau where Olveiroa sits. The views of the surrounding valleys and mountains are spectacular.
The arrival at Olveiroa is a relief and a pleasant surprise. This small village, which was almost abandoned, has been beautifully restored and today it's an example of traditional Galician architecture, with its stone houses, towers, and crossroads. Completely dedicated to pilgrims, it offers several hostels and restaurants, providing a cozy and authentic final stage in the midst of an unforgettable landscape.
