Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

Final cycling stage to Cape Fisterra, considered by the Romans as the Finis Terrae (End of the Known World). The 40 km link Olveiroa with Fisterra passing by Cee and Corcubión through the Corcubión estuary. The end is made by ascending to the Fisterra Lighthouse (kilometer 0 of the extension of the Camino), facing the Atlantic, where traditionally the vestments are burned and the sunset is contemplated at the edge of the world.
Starting the epilogue of the Camino on a bike from Santiago to Muxía is a transformative experience. With 87 kilometers ahead, this route departs from the monumental hug of the Cathedral to immerse itself in the heart of rural Galicia. The first kilometers are a gentle descent from 260 meters in Santiago, crossing a landscape that quickly becomes greener and more solitary. The profile is a constant up and down, a rough ride that puts the cyclist's endurance to the test while traversing the comarcas looking westward. The path passes through Negreira and continues on to Olveiroa, where the landscape becomes more rugged and deserted, anticipating the proximity of the Costa da Morte. The route reaches its maximum altitude of around 510 meters, offering breathtaking panoramic views. The final descent towards the coast is exciting, with the smell of salt and the sound of the ocean as a reward. Arrival in Muxía (10 m) is unforgettable. This coastal village, with its fishing port and narrow streets, is the precursor to the Sanctuary of the Virgin of the Boat, a magical place where stones, according to legend, are the remains of the Virgin's boat. Cycling to this point and contemplating the Atlantic Ocean is the true end of the journey for many.
