Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

Second stage of the Camino de San Salvador, a spectacular descent from the top of the Pajares pass (1,378 m) to Oviedo, capital of the Principality of Asturias. The route crosses the Huerna and Lena valleys, with mountain scenery and Atlantic forests, and allows us to visit the Asturian pre-Romanesque complex of Santa Cristina de Lena (World Heritage). Arrival in Oviedo and the Cathedral of San Salvador, where pilgrims traditionally fulfilled the saying "Whoever goes to Santiago and not to the Savior, visits the servant and forgets the Lord". Logical end to add to the Primitive Way from here.
The Ferreiros to Portomarín stage is a 10km short journey through rural Galicia. The path starts in Ferreiros (600m) and follows a mainly descending profile with some undulations until the town of Portomarín (350m). The route passes through a beautiful landscape, with forests and meadows. It's a peaceful walk without difficulties, allowing you to enjoy the scenery and arrive on time to explore the destination town. Arrival in Portomarín, a rebuilt village at the shores of Belesar reservoir, is an unique final stage. This stage combines a gentle workout with rich historical experience, a perfect balance on the Camino Francés.
