Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

Stage of the Camino del Mar through the region of Ortegal, one of the most spectacular of the Galician Atlantic coast. The 27 km link Porto de Espasante with Cariño, crossing cliffs, coves and the coastal mountain range of Capelada, where some of the highest cliffs of continental Europe are located (more than 600 m vertical drop to the sea). Cariño is a fishing port with a long whaling tradition, in front of Cape Ortegal, one of the cardinal points of the Atlantic.
The first stage of the Portuguese Coastal Way is a 27km journey that follows the Atlantic coast. The path starts in Porto (10m) and follows a mainly flat profile with a gentle ascent towards Vila do Conde (10m). The route passes beaches and fishing villages. It's an enjoyable walk, allowing you to appreciate the landscape and the tranquility of the surroundings. The arrival at Vila do Conde, a beautiful city at the mouth of the Ave River, is a stage with charm. This stage combines gentle exercise with rich historical and scenic experience, a perfect balance in the Portuguese Coastal Way.
