Stage Description
A day marked by a steady but gentle climb on leaving the valley of the Miño. The way crosses the sierra de Ligonde on easy tracks and quiet local roads, passing through small farming hamlets of deep rural Galicia until it reaches the high ground where Hospital da Cruz stands.
On leaving Portomarín the Camino crosses the reservoir and begins a climb up the Monte de San Antonio. The landscape changes into a higher, more exposed plateau. The route passes through places such as Gonzar and Castromaior (with its nearby pre-Roman hillfort). The arrival at Hospital da Cruz, a name that recalls the old pilgrim hospitals of the area, marks a strategic resting point after the climb up from the river.
