Stage Description

This stage enters a landscape of meadows, with the Sierra de Gredos as the backdrop. The profile is a gentle but continuous ascent, preparing the pilgrim for mountain stages. The landscape is of great beauty, with oaks, beeches and farmhouses. The destination is the village of Oropesa, dominated by its imposing castle-palace, which now houses the National Parador. It's a monumental stop in a privileged natural setting.
The journey between Talavera de la Reina and Oropesa is a beautiful stage that approaches the slopes of the Sierra de Gredos. The profile is a gentle but constant ascent, gradually gaining height. The landscape changes, and fields of cultivation give way to oak and pine woodlands, an ecosystem of great value. The road runs over dirt tracks and cattle trails, in a tranquil environment. In the distance, the peaks of the Sierra de Gredos offer a spectacular backdrop. Arrival in Oropesa is impressive. The village is dominated by its magnificent castle, a medieval fortress that was expanded with a Renaissance palace and today is one of Spain's most beautiful Paradores. Its old town, with its churches and houses, has great charm. It's a monumental end to the stage and a perfect place to enjoy history and landscape.
