Discover Portugalete

Portugalete is a historic seaside village on the left bank of the Bilbao Estuary. Its world fame comes from the Vizcaya Bridge, popularly known as the Hanging Bridge. This spectacular iron structure, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is the first transbordable bridge in the world and continues to operate. For pilgrims on the North Way, crossing the estuary in their boat is an unforgettable experience. Additionally, its medieval old town, with its steep streets, Santa María Basilica, and Salazar Tower, offers great appeal. It's a stop that combines industrial heritage, medieval history, and the lively atmosphere of the estuary.
