This stage marks the entry into the Community of Madrid and the beginning of the ascent towards the Sierra de Gredos. The profile becomes more demanding, with a continuous rise and fall. The landscape changes, and fields of cultivation give way to pine forests and vineyards of the DO Vinos de Madrid. It is a day of great beauty. The destination is San Martín de Valdeiglesias, an important mountain town, famous for its Castle of La Coracera and its natural surroundings.
The stage that connects Escalona with San Martín de Valdeiglesias is a transition phase that leads the pilgrim from the province of Toledo to the Community of Madrid. The profile becomes more demanding, with a progressive ascent into the mountains. The landscape changes, and the dehesas give way to pine forests and vineyards in the subzone of San Martín de Valdeiglesias within the DO Vinos de Madrid. Arrival at San Martín de Valdeiglesias marks the end of the stage. This important mountain village has a notable heritage, highlighting its imposing Castle of the Coracera. Additionally, its natural surroundings, with the San Juan reservoir and the Enchanted Forest, are of great beauty. It is a perfect final stage to enjoy history, nature, and viticulture.
