From Rieti, this stage climbs to one of the most important Franciscan sanctuaries. It is a day with a strong spiritual and physical component, as the path gains altitude to reach Poggio Bustone, a place of revelation for St. Francis. The route offers breathtaking views of the Holy Valley. The arrival at the sanctuary, nestled in the mountain, is a moment of great emotion and peace. The Rieti to Poggio Bustone stage is a 17.2 km journey of great spiritual significance. The trail starts at Rieti (405 m) and enters the Valley of the Holy Land, before beginning an arduous ascent to the sanctuary of Poggio Bustone (818 m). The route traverses a beautiful landscape with panoramic views of the valley and the lakes Lungo and Ripasottile. It is a demanding walk that requires good physical effort, but rewards with the beauty of its surroundings and the spirituality of the destination. The arrival at Poggio Bustone is one of the most emotional moments on the trail. It was here where Saint Francis and his first companions began their life of preaching. The sanctuary, nestled in the mountain's slope, is a place of deep peace and prayer. A visit to the cave of revelations and the temple is an unforgettable experience.
