Stage Description

The final stage of the Via Gebennensis. From above, the road descends towards Le Puy-en-Velay. The excitement grows as the spectacular silhouette of the city comes into view, with its cathedral and the Rocher Saint-Michel d'Aiguilhe. Arrival at Notre-Dame du Puy Cathedral is a moment of great emotion, the end of the Via Gebennensis and the point of connection with the Via Podiensis, the major French route to Santiago. An unforgettable end to an European adventure.
The final stage of the Via Gebennensis is a 18.5 km journey that culminates in Le Puy-en-Velay. The route starts at Saint-Julien-Chapteuil (820 m) and follows a mostly descending profile until the city of Le Puy-en-Velay (630 m). The route passes through a beautiful landscape with panoramic views of the valley. It is a peaceful and easy walk that allows you to enjoy the scenery and arrive in time to explore the destination city. Le Puy-en-Velay, with its spectacular cathedral and the Rocher Saint-Michel d'Aiguilhe, is the end of the Via Gebennensis and the connection point with the Via Podiensis. It's an easy exercise combined with a rich historical and spiritual experience, a perfect balance in the Via Gebennensis.
