Stage Description

This stage is a traverse through French Basque Country before arriving at the mythical Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. The route is undulating and of great beauty. Arrival in Ostabat-Asme, a crossroads of Jacobean routes of vital importance, is a moment of great emotion. It's a symbolic end of stage, marking the union of several French routes.
This 10km stage is an enjoyable stroll that serves as a precursor to one of the most symbolic points on the Way of St James. The route begins in Saint-Palais and enters into a rural landscape of gentle hills. The path is short and has a favorable profile, ideal for a leisurely walk. The final journey ends in Ostabat-Asme, a small village that is a fundamental milestone for pilgrims. Here three of the main French Jacobean routes converge: the Via Turonensis, the Via Lemovicensis, and the Via Podiensis. This crossroads of pilgrims creates an unique atmosphere and great camaraderie, a precursor to the crossing of the Pyrenees. The village, with its church of the Assumption and traditional houses, offers a peaceful final stage and a deep flavor of Jacobean history, a perfect place to reflect on the adventure that begins.
