Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
This long and demanding stage connects the Bread Village, Cea, with Deza County. It is a mountainous ride, an uninterrupted up and down that features the main highlight of passing through the imposing Monastery of Oseira, a jewel of Galician Cistercian. A visit to this monastery, set in a valley, is compulsory and splits the day into two parts. After Oseira, the road continues with its broken profile, traversing a landscape of beautiful woods and grasslands, and arriving at A Laxe, in Lalín municipality, marks the end of one of the most difficult but also most rewarding stages of the Sanabrés Way.
Starting from San Cristovo de Cea, this stage is one of the most complete and memorable sections of the Camino Sanabrés. The main attraction is the Monastery of Santa María la Real in Oseira. After a few kilometers of walking, the path arrives at this jewel of Cistercian architecture. The monastery, founded in the 12th century, is breathtakingly beautiful. Its church, cloisters, and chapter room are must-see attractions. The atmosphere of peace and spirituality that pervades Oseira is one of the great experiences on the route. After leaving the monastery, the path faces a demanding profile, a continuous rise and fall that traverses the heart of rural Galicia. The route enters the province of Pontevedra and the Deza comarca. The landscape is a mosaic of green pastures, forests, and stone villages. The final stage ends in A Laxe, a parish of the Lalín municipality. It's a long and hard day, but the beauty of the landscape and the grandeur of Oseira make it one of the favorites among pilgrims.
