Stage Description
This stage marks the entry into Cantabria. It is a day of great beauty that approaches the birthplace of the Ebro River. The profile is undulating, with an ascent to the Puerto de Carrales. The landscape is spectacular, with views of the Ebro Dam and the mountains of the Cantabrian Mountains. The route passes through the village of Arroyo, in the heart of the Valdearroyo valley. The destination, near the dam, offers a natural environment of great beauty and tranquility for the pilgrim's rest.
The stage between Soncillo and Arroyo de Valdearroyo is a day of great beauty that takes the pilgrim from Burgos to Cantabria. The main challenge of the day is the ascent to the Puerto de Carrales. Once at the top, one enters Cantabria and enjoys spectacular views of the massive Ebro Reservoir. The descent leads the pilgrim to the reservoir's shores. The route skirts the reservoir for several kilometers in a landscape of great beauty. The end of the stage is located in the small village of Arroyo, in the municipality of Valdearroyo. It is a place of absolute tranquility, ideal for rest and enjoying nature. Very close by is the Romanesque church of San Martín de Elines, an architectural jewel that well deserves a visit.
