Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

The last stage of the Baztan Route is an enjoyable stroll that brings the pilgrim to Navarre's capital. The profile is predominantly descending and flat, following the valley of the River Ultzama. The landscape is of great beauty, with riverbank forests and meadows. The final stretch becomes increasingly urban. Arrival in Pamplona, where the route links up with the French Way, marks the end of the journey. Entering the city through the historic Trinidad neighborhood and arriving at the Cathedral is a monumental reward.
The final stage of the Camino Baztanés is a very favorable profile journey that leads the pilgrim to Pamplona. The path descends gently following the course of the river Ultzama, through a landscape of great beauty. The route runs along an enjoyable riverside promenade, with riverbank woods and meadows. As it approaches Pamplona, the surroundings become more populated and urbanized. Entry into the city is made by the Trinidad neighborhood, crossing the Arga River over the medieval bridge of the same name. The path leads the pilgrim directly to the old town of the city. Arrival at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento and the Cathedral of Pamplona marks the end of the Camino Baztanés and the convergence with the Camino Francés. It is a moment of great emotion, the end of a solitary and beautiful route, and the incorporation into the large current of pilgrims heading to Santiago.
