Stage Description

After the heights of Trevi, this stage descends towards the plain to reach Foligno, an important town of the Valle Umbra. It is a short and easy day of little more than twelve kilometres, continuing among olive groves along the Sentiero degli Ulivi and losing height progressively. The path is dotted with small votive shrines at the crossroads, a testimony to the rural devotion of the area. Only the final stretch, already on the valley floor and on the outskirts of Foligno, requires walking alongside busier roads. Foligno, a communications hub of Umbria, welcomes the pilgrim with its Romanesque cathedral and the Palazzo Trinci, a jewel of late Gothic.
The stage from Trevi to Foligno marks the descent from the olive-covered hills towards the floor of the Valle Umbra. With little more than twelve kilometres and a mostly downhill profile, it is a short and manageable day that serves as a transition after the long previous stretch, continuing along the Sentiero degli Ulivi.

The path leaves the heights of Trevi and loses altitude progressively among olive groves and rural lanes, dotted with small votive shrines at the crossroads, a testimony to the popular devotion of the area. As the descent continues, the trail gives way to tracks and minor roads; the final stretch, already on the plain and on the outskirts of Foligno, runs alongside busier roads and calls for attention.

Foligno, set in the open plain, is one of the main communications hubs of Umbria and a town of notable heritage. The pilgrim finds the cathedral of San Feliciano, of Romanesque origin, and the Palazzo Trinci, a seigneurial residence with cycles of Gothic frescoes, as well as a wide range of services. Its urban character contrasts with the rural atmosphere of the preceding stages.
