Valencia to Algemesí

The inaugural stage of the Levante Camino from Valencia to Algemesí is a complete immersion in the characteristic landscape of the Valencian huerta. With a considerable distance of 38.7 kilometers, this journey is defined by its almost flat profile, which makes it a challenge of endurance rather than technique. Starting from the heart of Valencia (15 m), the pilgrim gradually leaves the urban environment to follow a labyrinth of agricultural roads that wind through fields of oranges, vegetables, and rice paddies. The path often follows the course of canals and irrigation ditches, vital elements that shape this fertile landscape. The route passes through localities such as Alfafar, Benetússer, and Silla, offering a gradual transition to rural surroundings. The lack of shade in many stretches makes sun protection and good hydration essential. The journey is an excellent opportunity to acclimate to the pace of the path and enjoy the Mediterranean sunlight. Arrival at Algemesí (18 m), a city with a deep cultural tradition, is a magnificent reward. Its Fiesta de la Mare de Déu de la Salut, featuring the famous "Muixeranga", is a cultural treasure that imbues the locality with character, even though it only takes place in September. This first stage is ultimately a long stroll through Valencia's pantry.
