Stage Description
This stage follows the course of the River Boutonne, on a flat and pleasant route. It is a moderate distance day that allows you to enjoy the riverine landscape. The arrival in Saintes, a city with an impressive Roman and Romanesque heritage, is a monumental final leg. Its triumphal arch, amphitheater, and St-Eutrope Church, World Heritage Site, make it one of the most important stops on the route. It's a day to enjoy history at its peak.
The stage from Saint-Jean-d'Angély to Saintes is a 25-kilometer journey that follows the course of the Boutonne River. The route starts at Saint-Jean-d'Angély (20 m) and follows a mostly flat profile, with a gentle descent towards Saintes (10 m). The route passes through a beautiful landscape, following in part the course of the river. It is an enjoyable walk that allows you to enjoy the scenery and the tranquility of the surroundings. Arrival at Saintes, a city with an impressive Roman and Romanesque heritage, is a monumental final stage. Its triumphal arch, amphitheater, and St. Eutrope Church, World Heritage Site, make it one of the most important stops on the route. It combines a gentle workout with a rich historical experience, a perfect balance in the Via Turonensis.
