Stage Description

This stage is a long and demanding day that takes the Zafra pilgrim to Almendralejo. The route crosses the Tierra de Barros region, famous for its vineyards, on a terrain of gentle undulations. It's a day to enjoy the vitivinicultural landscape and the solitude of the road. Arrival in Almendralejo, "The Cava City", is an oasis of services and an ideal place for rest.
The stage that connects Zafra with Almendralejo is a long journey through the Tierra de Barros region, one of Spain's most important wine-producing areas. The profile is a gentle up and down, without great difficulties. The landscape is dominated by extensive vineyards that disappear into the horizon. The road runs along the "calzadas", wide dirt tracks that connect the localities in the region. The lack of shade is the main difficulty. One passes through Villafranca de los Barros, known as the "City of Music". Arrival at Almendralejo, the capital of the region, marks the end of the stage. Almendralejo is famous for being the only locality in Extremadura where cava can be produced. It's a city with a great range of services and an ideal place for wine tourism enthusiasts.
