Zafra, nicknamed "Little Seville" for its beauty and lively atmosphere, is an important city on the southern Jacobean routes. It is the junction of the Camino Sur of Huelva with the historic Via de la Plata, becoming a key meeting point for pilgrims. The city, of noble origin, captivates with its heritage. Its main monument is the Alcázar of the Dukes of Feria, now a Parador of Tourism, an imposing fortress-palace. The heart of Zafra are its two adjacent squares, the Plaza Grande and the Plaza Chica, with their arcades and lively commercial and social life, a perfect place for the weary traveler to rest. The old town is a maze of narrow and whitewashed streets that evoke its medieval past. For pilgrims, Zafra is a major center of services, with hostels and excellent gastronomic offerings. It's a stop marking the end of one route and the beginning of another, a place to celebrate the journey completed and recharge for the long journey along the Via de la Plata northwards.
