Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
First stage of the Camino del Ebro after Zaragoza, following the banks of the river to the west. The 29 km link Zaragoza with Alagón along the fertile plain of the Ebro, with a landscape of irrigated orchards, fruit trees and cornfields. Alagón is a historic town of Zaragoza at the confluence of the Jalón and the Ebro, with a medieval old town, the church of San Pedro (12th century) and the palace of the Villahermosa family.
This stage continues inside the province of Lugo, in a medium mountain terrain. The profile is a continuous rise and fall through a beautiful landscape. The route crosses the Terra Chá, an extensive plain, passing by the historic city of Mondoñedo, one of the ancient capitals of the Kingdom of Galicia. Its cathedral and old town are a must-see. The destination is the small village of Gontán, a haven of peace in rural Galicia.
