Carrión de los Condes

Carrión de los Condes is one of the towns with the strongest pilgrim flavor on the entire Camino Francés. Set in the heart of the Palencia region of Tierra de Campos, its history is inseparable from the pilgrimage route, as its impressive heritage attests. For the pilgrim, walking down its calle Mayor means following the very path that millions of walkers have taken over the centuries. The church of Santa María del Camino, with its magnificent Romanesque doorway, and the church of Santiago, with its iconic Pantocrator, are artistic stops of the first order. Special mention goes to the Monasterio de San Zoilo, today a hotel, whose Plateresque cloister is a masterpiece of the Renaissance. Carrión de los Condes has always been an important center of assistance for pilgrims, and it keeps that tradition alive today with an excellent network of albergues, including the one run by the Poor Clare nuns. It is an essential stop on the meseta, a place to immerse yourself in Romanesque art, enjoy Castilian hospitality and reflect on the living history of the Camino de Santiago.
