The Town

Discover Cuenca

Cuenca is a city rooted in the mountains of central-eastern Spain. Founded by the Arabs, it still keeps its walled historic quarter, with steep cobbled streets and the ruins of medieval castles. Clinging to the limestone rock face, the famous and well-preserved "casas colgadas" (hanging houses) stand above the rivers Júcar and Huécar. These cantilevered buildings look as though they were gripping the crags of the Huécar gorge.
