Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
This stage continues through the Cordoban countryside, on a terrain of gentle undulations. The landscape is dominated by olive groves, which produce one of the most famous oils in the world. The route passes through the village of Cabra, the gateway to the Natural Park of the Subbetica Mountains. The destination is Baena, another of the capitals of olive oil, with an impressive medieval old town, Almedina, and a rich historical heritage.
The journey between Lucena and Baena is an immersion in olive oil culture. The route runs through the Subbética region, in a landscape of hills covered with olives. It passes by the important city of Cabra, with its medieval quarter of Cerro and its church of the Assumption. Arrival in Baena marks the end of the stage. This city is one of the world's major olive oil capitals, with several mills that can be visited. Its old town, Almedina, of Arab origin, is a maze of narrow and steep streets, with the church of Santa María la Mayor at its highest point. It is an obligatory stop for history and gastronomy lovers. The pilgrim will be able to taste some of the world's best oils.
