Stage Description
This stage marks the entry into Córdoba province. The route traverses a sea of olives on a terrain of gentle undulations. It is a day of great beauty, that enters the comarca of Subbética. The destination is Lucena, "the Pearl of Sefarad", one of the most important cities in the province. Its Jewish past, its baroque patrimony and lively atmosphere make it a monumental and cultural stop of first order.
The stage that connects Villanueva de Algaidas to Lucena is a journey that takes the pilgrim from Málaga province to Córdoba province. The profile is a gentle up and down through an olive grove. Arrival in Lucena is the big prize of the day. Known as "the Pearl of Sefarad", Lucena was one of the most important Jewish centers on the peninsula during the Middle Ages. Its heritage is a reflection of its rich history. The Castle of Moral, the San Mateo Parish and the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Araceli are must-visit sites. But above all, Lucena is a city to stroll through its old town, discover its baroque palaces and enjoy its lively atmosphere. It's one of the most important stops on the Mozárabe Route, a place to immerse yourself in the history of the three cultures.
