Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

This stage marks the passage from Palentine Mountain to Cantabria. It is a mountainous journey, long and demanding, that ascends progressively until exceeding 1,000 meters of altitude. The path traverses spectacular landscapes, with beech and oak forests, and panoramic views of the peaks of the Cantabrian Mountains. It is an episode of great beauty and solitude. Arrival in Reinosa, capital of the Campoo region and situated at the source of the Ebro River, marks the end of a hard mountain journey and welcomes you to Cántabrian lands.
The stage that connects Aguilar de Campoo with Reinosa is a transition day that leads the pilgrim from the Palatinian meseta to Cantabrian mountains. It's a long stage with considerable elevation gain, requiring good preparation. The route starts in Aguilar and enters the Natural Park of Palatinian Mountains, ascending progressively. The landscape is spectacular, featuring lush forests, valleys, and reservoirs, such as Aguilar's one. As altitude increases, views become more impressive. The route crosses the border between Castile and León and Cantabria, and the landscape becomes even greener and mountainous. Arrival in Reinosa, capital of Campoo-Los Valles comarca, marks the end of the stage. This village, located over 800 meters above sea level, is known for being one of Spain's coldest places in winter. Its old town preserves blazoned houses and a mountain atmosphere. It's an important service center, ideal for resting and recovering from effort.
