Stage Description
This is a long and demanding stage that ventures into the heart of French Basque Country. The route is a continuous up and down through green hills and charming villages. Arrival in Ostabat is a very special moment, as here three of the major Jacobean routes from France converge. It's a melting pot of pilgrims, a prelude to crossing the Pyrenees. It's a day of great beauty and effort, which rewards with a symbolic end.
The stage from Sorde-l'Abbaye to Ostabat is a 32 km long journey that enters the heart of French Basque Country. The route starts at Sorde-l'Abbaye (20 m) and follows an undulating profile, with a gentle ascent towards Ostabat (150 m). The route passes through a beautiful landscape, with green hills and charming villages. It is an demanding walk due to its length, but it rewards with the beauty of its scenery and the symbolism of destiny. Arrival at Ostabat is a very special moment, as here three of the major French Jacobean routes converge. It's a crossroads for pilgrims, a precursor to the crossing of the Pyrenees. It's an energetic stage that is rewarded with a monumental finale.
