Stage Description

This stage enters the spectacular Ribeira Sacra lucense. The path leaves the Sil valley to ascend gently, offering increasingly impressive panoramic views. The profile is undulating, with an initial ascent followed by smoother terrain. The route runs through a heroic vineyard landscape, planted in terraces on the river's slopes. Arrival in Quiroga, a village nestled in a valley and gateway to the Montañas do Courel Geopark, marks the end of a day of great scenic beauty and ethnographic richness.
The stage between O Barco de Valdeorras and Quiroga is a day of great beauty that immerses the pilgrim in the landscapes of Ribeira Sacra. The route leaves the Sil Valley to venture into a more mountainous and rugged terrain. The profile is demanding, with an initial ascent and continuous ups and downs. The landscape is dominated by the vineyards of the D.O. Ribeira Sacra, cultivated on heroic terraces (socalcos) that defy gravity on the riverbanks' slopes. The route offers spectacular views of the fluvial canyons and native forests. It passes through stone and slate villages that preserve their ancestral charm. Arrival in Quiroga, a village situated in a fertile valley, is the end of the stage. Quiroga is known for its olive oil, one of the few produced in Galicia, and its honey. Additionally, it is the entrance to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Montañas do Courel Geopark, a territory of great geological and natural value.
