Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

This stage of the Winter Way deviates from the French Way to follow the course of the Sil River. The route is of exceptional beauty, crossing the narrow valley of the Sil, with its slopes covered in vineyards. The path runs over undulating terrain, passing through small villages and offering spectacular views of the river and surrounding mountains. The final day ends in O Barco de Valdeorras, the capital of the comarca and an important service center, famous for its wines with Designation of Origin.
The stage from Ponferrada to O Barco de Valdeorras is a beautiful journey that follows the course of the Sil River, the backbone of the Winter Route. The profile is undulating, with constant ups and downs that adapt to the valley's topography. The trail leaves Berciana capital and enters a landscape of vineyards and orchards. The route narrows into the valley, offering spectacular views of the Sil and surrounding mountains. It traverses a richly natural landscape, with riverbank forests and vineyard-covered slopes announcing its arrival in Valdeorras' vitivinicultural region. The trail passes through several small villages in an atmosphere of great tranquility. Arrival at O Barco de Valdeorras, the comarca's capital, marks the end of the stage. This village, the first Galician stop on the route, is a major service center and the heart of the Valdeorras Denomination of Origin, famous for its Godello grape wines. It's a perfect place to rest and enjoy local cuisine.
