Stage Description

This stage is approaching the important city of Valladolid, following in large part along the course of the River Duero. The profile is flat and the landscape is dominated by pines and riverbank vegetation. It's a pleasant journey that culminates in the local town of Puente Duero, at the gates of the capital. Its famous medieval bridge, which gives the town its name, is the main landmark of the day. It's an approach stage that allows for a peaceful break before entering the large city.
The journey between Alcazarén and Puente Duero is the precursor to arrival in Valladolid. The road continues to flow through the Land of Pines, on a flat and comfortable terrain. The route approaches the course of the River Duero, one of Europe's great rivers, and the landscape enriches itself with riverbank vegetation. The road passes by the local town of Simancas, an important historical village dominated by its imposing castle, which houses the General Archive of Simancas, one of Europe's most important archives. A visit to the castle and old town of Simancas is highly recommended. After Simancas, a short stroll leads the pilgrim to Puente Duero. This locality, now a district of Valladolid, owes its name to its magnificent medieval bridge with over ten arches. It's a quiet place, ideal for overnight stays before the final short stage towards the center of Valladolid.
