Stage Description
Leaving behind the area of Valladolid, this stage enters into the Montes Torozos, a zone of moors and hills. The profile becomes more demanding, with continuous ups and downs. The landscape is austere in beauty, with wide horizons and a great sense of solitude. The route passes through localities such as Wamba, with its unique Mozarabic church. The destination is Peñaflor de Hornija, a small village nestled in a valley, offering a refuge of peace after the passage through the moorland.
The stage connecting Puente Duero to Peñaflor de Hornija is a day of change. The pilgrim leaves the Duero valley to ascend to the Montes Torozos, a region of moors that rise above the meseta. The profile is demanding, with an initial climb to reach the moorland. Once up, the terrain smooths out, but the landscape is austere and exposed to the wind. The path traverses a landscape of great solitude and beauty. One of the most interesting points on the route is the town of Wamba, which houses the church of Santa María, one of the few examples of Mozarabic architecture preserved in Spain. A visit here is an unforgettable experience. After Wamba, the path continues through the moorland until it begins the descent into Hornija valley. The arrival at Peñaflor de Hornija, a small traditional town, marks the end of the stage. Its tranquil atmosphere is perfect for rest.
