Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
This stage continues in the west of Asturias, on a terrain of medium mountain. The profile is a continuous rise and fall, with the ascent to Alto de Lavadoira as the main difficulty. The landscape is of great beauty, with forests and panoramic views. Arrival at Pola de Allande, an enclave village in a valley and capital of the concejo, offers a well-deserved rest and all necessary services for the pilgrim.
The Camino Baztanés begins in the beautiful town of Bayonne. This first stage is a gentle and pleasant day that serves to bid farewell to urban surroundings and venture into Lapurdi's countryside. The path follows for the most part along the banks of the Nive River, on a scenic riverbank trail of great beauty. The profile is completely flat, allowing for comfortable and relaxed walking. The landscape is dominated by dense green meadows, gentle hills and typical Basque-French farmhouses. The arrival at the small village of Elizondo, capital of the valley, is a picturesque and authentic end to stage. It's a stage to enjoy nature and the culture of the French Basque Country.
