Amaiur, or Maya of the Baztán, is one of the towns with the greatest symbolic load of Navarre. On top of its hill stood the castle that was the last stronghold of the Kingdom of Navarre to resist its incorporation into Castile in the 16th century. Today, a monument recalls those events. The town, structured as a single street, is a beautiful example of Baztanesque architecture. For the pilgrim of the Baztan Route, it's an obligatory stop to connect with Navarre's history. Its tranquil atmosphere, its entrance arch, and its green surroundings make it an unforgettable place.
