Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
This is a short and flat stage that connects two key points of the Palentian Romanesque. The route follows the plains of Tierra de Campos on an enjoyable stroll that allows for rapid progress. The route passes through the locality of Población de Campos. The great incentive of the journey is the arrival in Frómista, one of the capitals of European Romanesque. Its church of San Martín de Tours is a masterpiece of medieval architecture, a must-see stop. Additionally, in Frómista the route intersects with the Castile Canal, offering a beautiful landscape.
The stage between Amayuelas de Abajo and Frómista is a short but highly artistic journey. The road continues over the plain of the Land of Campos, on a comfortable and flat route with no inclines. It passes through the local town of Población de Campos, with its church and hermitage. The main attraction of this stage is its destination: Frómista. This village is a fundamental stop in any cultural route for Castile and León. Its church of San Martín de Tours is considered one of the most pure and perfect examples of Romanesque art in all of Europe. Its harmony of volumes, the richness of its capitals, and its state of preservation make it an unforgettable visit. Additionally, in Frómista, the Castellano Lebaniego Way meets the French Way and the Canal of Castile, with its famous set of four locks. This convergence of historical routes and engineering makes Frómista a place of great importance and a very complete final stage.
