Stage Description
The first stage of the Castellano Lebaniego Way starts from the capital palentine to enter the vastness of the Land of Campos. It is a long and completely flat journey, that runs along earth paths between fields of cereal. The route goes through a landscape of infinite horizons, ideal for introspection. One passes by small adobe villages like Grijota. The destination is the small village of Amayuelas de Abajo, an example of sustainable rural development and a haven of peace in the Castilian plain.
The Camino Lebaniego Castellano begins in the monumental city of Palencia, at the feet of its "Beautiful Unknown", the Cathedral of San Antolín. This first stage is a long journey that immerses the pilgrim in the characteristic landscape of the province: the Land of Campos. The profile is completely flat, and the path advances over dirt tracks that get lost in an infinite horizon of cereal fields. The departure from Palencia is urban, but soon one reaches open countryside. One passes through Grijota, where its church stands out and the proximity to the Canal of Castilla is notable. The stage continues on this plain, in a setting of great solitude and silence, ideal for meditation. The arrival at Amayuelas de Abajo marks the end of the day. This small village is a very special place, known for its recovery project and sustainable life, with its ecological hostel and commitment to biological agriculture. It's an endpoint that combines tradition with a vision of the future.
